Princess In Training (my official half marathon training schedule)

So I sat down this morning with a calendar, and a cup of coffee, and the laptop, and a pencil, and some paper, and my schedule, and some more coffee, and my thinking cap, and a kid in my lap.  Yes, it was a lot of hard work for a Saturday morning, but I managed.

It was time to come up with an official training schedule for the Princess Half Marathon at Disney World (March 7th).  That is just around the corner. Think about how quickly the holiday season flies by.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, ringing in the new year, my 16th wedding anniversary, Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine's Day....they come and go fast.  And then I'm left with a half marathon to run.  Whether I'm trained well or not.  So I damn well better gear up!  The most I can go at this point in time is 6 miles.  Not bad considering I'm still bouncing back from a foot injury, but I have to somehow manage 7.1 more miles in addition to what I am already struggling to run.  All in 16 weeks.  So here's my plan....

If any fellow bloggers OR blog readers are headed to Disney World in early March, I will be there March 4 - 8 (without my kids!!!!).  I'd love to meet you in person (but not if you're a crazy stalker).  I've already touched base with some of you regarding meeting up.  Debby has agreed to come be a cheerleader at the finish line (wear your short skirt, Debby!).  My big plan is to meet up with everyone at Cosmic Rays in Tomorrowland.  We can grab a veggie burger!  Yes, I actually know of all the places there with healthier options.  It's really kind of sad when you think about it.  I figure the healthy foods balance out all of the Mickey head shaped ice creams and chocolate covered frozen bananas (which are semi-healthy if you ask me) that I consume while I'm there.  :)

Oh, an you'll be able to spot me a mile away because I'll be the dork with the homemade Minnie Mouse purse.....

I used that plan for my first half. I actually trained for more weeks bc I wanted to run the distance prior to the race. I am injured from my half but hoping I can get into the swing of things so I can start training for Disney soon!!! I sure didnt think about the logistics of training for half in the middle of the winter in upstate NY LOL.

I am totally down for a meet up! We can also celebrate my birthday which is March 9th :)

You guys get hit even harder than we do in Cincinnati. The temps here are brutal sometimes. In the negatives. That's one of the reasons I didn't mind dragging out what was supposed to be just week 8 into 4 weeks. lol I'm sure I could be ready in 12 weeks if I had to, but I feel a lot more comfortable with a 16 week plan. I think the ice, snow, temps will play a part in all of this. I do have a treadmill, but cannot IMAGINE running 8 miles in my house. How crazy boring would that be??? I'll run outdoors as much as possible, but will suck it up and use the treadmill if I have to.

Oh come on!! Don't be wimps!!! The temps can't be THAT bad!! ;) ;) (You know I'm joking -- right??) Seriously though, it can be done in the cold, just layer up really really good. I've ran in negative degree temperatures before; it's not pleasant, but it can be done.

How exciting to be training for a half-marathon!! It going to be such a great experience for you!!!

I admit I'm jealous!!!

Hey, if you have tips on what kind of gear it takes to run in cold weather (usually close to 0 temps), please pass the advice along!!! I have no idea what to buy & cannot imagine myself running down the street with my fluffy winter coat on. lmao

I ran over 8 miles on a TM this past summer!! One of the most boring 99 mins of my life LOL. Never again (I hope anyway).

My advice is lots of layers. Moisture wicking clothes - no cotton. A tight moisture wicking shirt as the base layer and then layers on top that you can take off if need be. You should dress for 20 degrees warmer then it actually is. They say if you arent cold for the 1st mile you are overdressed. I dont like hats so I usually wear those ear warmers and gloves.

Also a good investment is yak trax - they slip over your sneakers and grip the ice so you dont slip. Love mine!

99 minutes????? Yikes. I can make it 3 miles. That's my mental breaking point with the TM. lmao

Last year they started the race a little later because of the time change. Maybe wou will be as luck. It's a great race and they welcome fans to cheer. Have a great race and enjoy. They had princesses at every mile marker, that was really cool.
